The National Substance Use Prevention Week – Narok Chapter concluded today at Narok Teachers Training College (TTC) in Narok Town, bringing together stakeholders committed to addressing the growing challenge of substance abuse in society.
During the event, the office of the County leadership was represented by members of staff led by the NGAAF County Coordinator, Ms. Joyce Kipai, who attended on behalf of the County Woman Representative. The delegation joined other stakeholders in showing solidarity and reaffirming their commitment to preventing substance abuse and supporting community awareness initiatives.
Speaking during the event, it was noted that substance abuse remains a complex societal challenge influenced by several factors including peer pressure, environmental influences, socio-economic conditions, mental health challenges, and accessibility of drugs. While individuals bear responsibility for their choices, it is important for society to recognize the broader systems and circumstances that contribute to substance abuse.

Stakeholders emphasized the need to address the menace with seriousness, compassion, and sensitivity, noting that prevention, rehabilitation, and community awareness are critical in tackling the issue effectively. Collaborative efforts among institutions, community leaders, and government agencies were highlighted as key to protecting young people and ensuring a healthier future for the Narok community.
In support of the institution and to promote a conducive learning environment, a 5,000-litre water tank was donated to Narok Teachers Training College to enhance water accessibility within the college.

The event marked an important step in strengthening partnerships between community stakeholders and educational institutions in the fight against substance abuse.
